Overview

Basukinath Temple, located in the Dumka district of Jharkhand, is one of the most revered Hindu shrines in the region. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, it is traditionally considered the "court" (Basukinath Darbar) of Shiva, whereas Baba Baidyanath in Deoghar is considered the residence. Pilgrims visiting Baidyanath Dham generally consider their pilgrimage incomplete without offering holy water at Basukinath. The temple complex features an iconic orange-colored shikhara and houses several smaller shrines dedicated to other deities. During the holy month of Shravan, the temple is filled with hundreds of thousands of saffron-clad Kanwarias who walk long distances to offer holy water from the Ganges.

History & Significance

The temple dates back several centuries, with local folklore attributing its establishment to a tribal person named Basuki who discovered the Shiva Lingam. The temple was later patronized by the local kings of the Ghatwali estate and is a key pillar of spiritual life in the Santhal Pargana.

Deoghar Airport (45 km) or Ranchi Airport (270 km).

By Rail

Basukinath Railway Station (2 km) or Jasidih Junction (55 km).

By Road

Located on the Deoghar-Dumka highway (NH-114A). Regular buses and taxis run between Deoghar and Dumka.
