Overview
Baba Baidyanath Dham, situated in the holy city of Deoghar, stands as one of the twelve venerated Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva in India, and holds the unique distinction of being both a Jyotirlinga and a Shakti Peetha (Kamajodhiya). The temple complex is a grand spiritual citadel, comprising the towering main temple of Baba Baidyanath alongside twenty-one other beautifully sculpted shrines dedicated to various deities, all nestled within a spacious stone courtyard. The main temple is capped with a majestic 72-foot pyramidal shikhara (spire) adorned with three gold vessels (kalashas) and a sacred punchshula (five-pronged trident). A red thread connects the spires of the Shiva and Parvati temples, symbolizing the sacred bond of the divine couple. Every year during the auspicious Hindu month of Shravan (July–August), Deoghar hosts the historic Shravani Mela, where over eight million saffron-clad pilgrims (Kanwariyas) walk a barefoot pilgrimage of 105 kilometres from Sultanganj (Bihar) carrying holy water from the River Ganges to offer at this shrine, marking it as the world's longest continuous human walk-pilgrimage.
History & Significance
According to legend, the demon king Ravana worshipped Lord Shiva at this spot and offered his ten heads as sacrifice to please the deity. Lord Shiva, moved by this devotion, healed Ravana and the place came to be known as "Vaidyanath" — the Lord of physicians. The temple has been rebuilt and renovated multiple times over the centuries, with the current structure dating back to the medieval period.

By Air
Nearest airport: Gaya Airport (250 km) or Ranchi Airport (280 km).
By Rail
Deoghar Railway Station (2 km from the temple). Baidyanath Dham station is even closer. Regular trains from Kolkata, Patna, Delhi.
By Road
Well-connected by road from all major Jharkhand cities. NH-114A connects Deoghar to the national highway network.

Best Time to Visit
Winter is ideal for comfortable visits. The Shravani Mela in July–August is the most auspicious time but extremely crowded.
