Overview

Harihar Dham, located in Bagodar in the Giridih district of Jharkhand, is a unique pilgrimage site famous for housing the tallest Shiva Lingam in the world, standing at a massive height of 65 feet. The Shiva Lingam itself is a hollow concrete and stone structure containing the temple sanctum inside it, where prayers are offered. The temple complex is situated in the middle of quiet agricultural plains and draws a large number of devotees, particularly during the Mahashivratri festival and the holy month of Shravan.

History & Significance

The construction of the giant Shiva Lingam began in 1974 under the direction of local religious leaders and was completed after years of craftsmanship. The temple was built to create a landmark center for Shiva worship on the Giridih plateau.
