Overview

Perwaghagh Falls is one of the most beautiful and untouched waterfalls in Jharkhand, hidden deep within the dense forest blocks of Torpa in Khunti district. Unlike the tourist-heavy cascades near Ranchi, Perwaghagh remains pristine and off the beaten track. The name 'Perwa' translates to pigeon, and 'Ghagh' means waterfall in local tribal dialects, referring to the thousands of wild pigeons that nest in the rocky clefts behind the cascading sheet of water. The waterfall flows into a deep rocky pool of striking turquoise-blue water, surrounded by sheer stone cliffs and tall sal woodlands. Reaching it requires a scenic but unpaved forest trek of about 2 km, making it a true adventure for nature purists.

History & Significance

Historically protected by the local Munda tribe, the canyon surrounding Perwaghagh has been a sacred grove (Sarna) and shelter for native wildlife. It has been preserved as a hidden sanctuary due to its remote location and the local community's commitment to maintaining their forest's integrity.
