Overview

Panchghagh Falls is a stunning nature resort in the Khunti district of Jharkhand, located approximately 55 km from Ranchi and 6 km from Khunti town. Unlike other thundering falls in the state, Panchghagh is a collection of five gentle, narrow streams that cascade over low rock structures. This makes the pool at the base exceptionally safe and family-friendly. The water flows over pristine basalt rocks, bordered by dense deciduous forests. The local tourism department has developed the site with walkways, viewing decks, and picnic gardens under the shade of tall sal trees, making it a highly popular weekend getaway for picnics and family outings.

History & Significance

The name "Panchghagh" is derived from the Hindi words "Panch" (five) and "Ghagh" (waterfall), representing the five distinct streams of the Banai River. The site has historically been a peaceful retreat for local tribal communities, and has been developed into an eco-tourism park in recent years to preserve its forest cover while welcoming visitors.
