Overview

Dassam Falls (also spelled Dasam or Dassam Ghagh) is a stunning 44-metre horseshoe-shaped waterfall on the Kanchi River, located about 40 km from Ranchi. The name "Dassam" means "ten streams" in the local language, referring to how the river splits into multiple channels before plunging over the cliff edge. The falls are set in a rocky valley surrounded by lush greenery, creating a dramatic natural amphitheatre. During the monsoon, the entire width of the cliff face is covered in cascading water, making it one of the most visually impressive waterfalls in the region.

History & Significance

The falls have been a popular excursion destination since the British colonial period. The surrounding area is inhabited by the Munda and Oraon tribal communities who consider the river sacred. Several local festivals involve rituals performed near the water.
